Abstract: This educational renewal request will support SDSC's HPC/CI Students Program (HPC-Students), which is focused on educating and training the next generation of HPC professionals and researchers. HPC-Students is designed to educate students from high school to post-graduate levels about HPC and Cyberinfrastructure, to motivate them to pursue careers in HPC/CI, and to serve as bridge between students and the HPC/CI community. The program focuses on UCSD undergraduates and graduates, as well as local high school students participating the SDSC Research Experience for High School (REHS) programs. HPC-Students also reaches out to other organizations and groups as time and budget permits. SDSC is committed to sponsoring and supporting student activities by funding and providing resources for HPC/CI Students activities. The allocations awarded for this request will be used to facilitate HPC-Students activities that involve computational resources, including: Employing undergraduate and graduate student interns; • Facilitating access by students to large-scale HPC/CI systems both at SDSC and across ACCESS systems. • interacting and impacting several UCSD Clubs; • increasing student participation at conferences and meetings; • hosting student focused training workshops, bootcamps, hackathons; • providing training material for students; • managing student accounts and allocations on SDSC/ACCESS resources; • mentoring and sponsoring competitive teams, such as the annual Student Cluster Competition (SCC) at the annual Supercomputing meetings. • supporting SDSC, UCSD, and NSF broader engagement goals.
